Are you interested in being part of one of the most data-rich environments in the Netherlands? The Air France-KLM Group, which carried over 100 million passengers in 2025, offers direct flights to 161 destinations via the KLM network. The Flying Blue loyalty program has a loyal customer base of more than 29 million members worldwide. KLM's Digital Marketing department operates in 70 countries and generates traffic, bookings, and revenue on our websites and apps. This provides an extensive landscape for applying your skills, as well as opportunities for personal growth and learning.

As a Data Engineer, you will be part of the marketing data engineering & data science team: a highly motivated group focused on optimizing the customer journey, assessing the value of various channels (such as search, email, and display), and addressing a wide range of data-related challenges.

What will you do?

  • Build the foundation for insights and modelling: Design and develop the robust data architecture needed to unlock the potential of our data and lay the groundwork for advanced machine learning, dashboards, and analytics.
  • Architect of the data pipelines in our cloud infrastructure: Design, build, and maintain scalable end-to-end data pipelines for diverse marketing sources. You are responsible for the automation, accuracy, and reliability of all data flows.
  • Translate business into technology: Collaborate with marketing teams to translate complex questions regarding marketing measurement and personalization into solid technical solutions and data models.
  • Forge an integrated ecosystem: Build a harmonized marketing data landscape by technically connecting various tools, channels, and sources. You ensure seamless integration, bringing data together from different silos.
  • The engineering expert: Become the technical point of contact within the broader digital marketing team. You support analysts and interdisciplinary teams with complex data challenges and provide the technical solutions necessary for growth and innovation.

Where do you land?

As part of Air France KLM’s Marketing Data & Technology departments, you will join the data engineering & data science team. In this role, you will work alongside data scientists and data analysts, building close collaborations with teams responsible for various online marketing channels, campaign management, and digital product development.

Furthermore, you will engage with stakeholders throughout the wider organization. Reporting to the manager data science & data engineering, you will work together to oversee the roadmap, with the collective goal of enhancing our capabilities for data-driven decision-making.

Your profile

Tell you what to do? We’d rather not! Your passion lies in understanding the mechanics behind the data: how flows are structured, how systems are linked, and how you can optimize these processes. You immediately spot where a data pipeline can be made more efficient or where data quality needs to be safeguarded. In discussions with colleagues, you are proactive in guarding technical feasibility and maximizing the data infrastructure. Taking the lead on a complex bug or a new integration is a challenge you welcome.

Additionally, you possess the following:

  • Academic Level: You have a university-level thinking and working ability, preferably with a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Informatics, Econometrics, or another STEM field.
  • SQL Specialist in the making: SQL is your second language. You enjoy not just extracting data but also building complex transformations that form the foundation of all our marketing insights.
  • Python Proficiency: You have experience with (or a strong foundation in) programming in Python. You enjoy using it to automate processes and ensure data ends up in the right place.
  • Cloud Native (GCP): You have a keen interest in cloud platforms. Since we work entirely within the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment, experience with GCP or BigQuery is a major advantage.
  • Data Modeling & Tools: You understand how to structure data logically. If you have worked with tools like Dataform or dbt, you have a distinct edge—but if not, we are happy to teach you!
  • Affinity with Digital Marketing: You are interested in understanding market dynamics. This helps you technically unlock and integrate various data sources (such as Google Analytics, Facebook Ads, or Google Ads) into our landscape.
  • Project-based Work: You are organized and enjoy working in cross-functional teams, where you translate marketing requirements into functional, technical data solutions.
