The world lies at your feet as a Cargo Sustainability Project Manager Intern at KLM. Not only will you work on pivotal sustainability projects such as our “Sustainable Aviation Fuel” (SAF) program, but you will also be contributing to our Vision 2030 to lead the transformation towards a more sustainable airfreight industry. You will be surrounded by a vibrant team in the bustling TransPort Building at Schiphol East, providing an environment where innovation and collaboration are key. At KLM, you have the chance to continuously surpass yourself.

What will you do?

As a Cargo Sustainability Project Manager Intern, you will be a key player in shaping KLM Cargo’s sustainability strategy. You’ll work on a range of projects – from advancing our SAF program to streamlining internal processes and supporting commercial initiatives. Your work will contribute directly to how KLM engages customers and partners in making airfreight more sustainable.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development and coordination of the Cargo SAF program and leading progress on our goSAF product;
  • Assisting in the creation of SAF offers and preparing materials for negotiations with key accounts;
  • Collaborating with local sales managers to enhance the SAF sales process, including tools and training;
  • Developing and improving a dashboard to monitor SAF developments, progress, and actions, providing insights for decision-making and stakeholder communication;
  • Optimizing internal workflows related to sustainability initiatives;
  • Developing sustainability-focused training materials for the Cargo Sales team.

This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in project management, stakeholder collaboration, and sustainable business innovation.

Where do you land?

You will be based at Schiphol East, working within the Cargo Sales & Distribution department, a dynamic and diverse team with a shared passion for innovation and sustainability. You will report to and be mentored by the Commercial Sustainability Manager, receiving guidance, feedback, and personalized coaching throughout your internship.

Your profile

You are proactive, detail-oriented, and not afraid to take initiative. You enjoy tackling complex challenges and can easily switch between strategic thinking and hands-on execution. You communicate clearly with stakeholders and thrive both independently and in a team environment.

You bring:

  • Enrollment in a Master’s program in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business, Product Engineering, or a related field;
  • A strong interest in sustainability and the aviation or logistics industry;
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Fluency in English (Dutch and/or French are a plus);
  • Availability for 6 months, starting September 2026, for 5 days per week;
  • Ability to commute within 60 minutes to Schiphol Oost (accessible by public transport or car, with free parking available).
