Operations

Operations at KLM is the heartbeat of our airline. You make sure flights, crew and passenger flows run smoothly.
Within Operations it’s all about connecting data and technology. Together with colleagues in the air and on the ground, you ensure that aircraft, passengers and crew reach their destinations safely and efficiently. It is a dynamic environment where planning, maintenance and service constantly come together.
This is what it looks like
A strong example is LiMiTS, an AI solution that makes gate and maintenance planning smarter. The system predicts how much time technicians will need for checks and repairs and distributes tasks more effectively across teams. This prevents delays and gets the fleet back in the air faster. For engineers and planners, it means focusing on quality while the system calculates the optimal distribution.
Passenger flows are also shaped by data. With the hand luggage predictor (Chace) we forecast how much cabin baggage passengers will bring on board. This helps gate agents and crew take timely measures, such as redistributing luggage. The result: shorter queues, fewer delays and a smoother travel experience for passengers.
Other innovations support this approach. With Sentry, operations staff receive real-time scenarios during disruptions, helping planners make better choices faster. In the maintenance shops, teams use digital tools and data to inspect, repair and return aircraft components more quickly. Together, these projects show how Operations keeps innovating with smart technology.
Room to grow
Working in Operations means being part of an environment that never stands still. You will learn from both hands-on practice and cutting-edge technology. Through training, knowledge sharing and international collaboration, you can develop towards specializations such as operations research, data science or leadership roles within operations.
Your role
As an operations specialist, you are the link that brings everything together: crew, passengers and fleet. With solutions like LiMiTS and the hand luggage predictor, you directly influence how smooth and reliable our operations run. This way, you contribute every day to aviation that is smarter and more customer focused.
