Engineering

Prepare the airline industry for the future
As an engineer at KLM you work in an industry that is increasingly dependent on software and smart technology. Our in-house systems run in the cloud and are active in more than 100 aircraft. You will work with the latest web technologies, from e-commerce platforms and self-service centres to mobile and smartwatch apps. Here you simplify complex systems and enhance the travel experience for millions of customers every single day.
This is what it looks like
One example is the CrewApp, which gives cockpit and cabin crew real-time access to flight details, service information and passenger profiles. This provides better situational awareness, smoother collaboration and improved service on board.
Another case is the development of Flight Routing Tools—smart software that optimizes routes and fuel consumption. These tools calculate millions of scenarios to make flights more efficient and sustainable. For pilots this means accurate, real-time advice; for passengers it means a more stable travel experience.
Our engineers also drive innovation in maintenance tooling. By equipping technicians with digital solutions, checks and repairs can be performed faster and more accurately. Mobile apps link maintenance statuses directly to planning systems, while AI models predict when a component needs to be replaced.
Finally, API integrations with partners enable customers around the world to access KLM services via external platforms. Engineers design and maintain the connections that ensure bookings, upgrades and payments run smoothly beyond our own channels.
Room to grow
Engineering offers plenty of room to develop. You’ll work with complex systems, international standards and the latest in software development, cloud and AI. Training and knowledge sessions help you sharpen your skills, and there are clear pathways to grow into roles such as architect or lead engineer.
Your role
As an engineer, you directly contribute to the reliability and innovation of KLM. Your work ensures that crew have the right information, flights are planned smarter, maintenance runs faster and passengers worldwide can easily access our services. In this way, you help build the digital infrastructure that is essential for the future of aviation.
