What NDT means for KLM E&M

From the smallest bolt to the largest wing: every part of an aircraft is under immense pressure and exposed to wear and tear. Hairline cracks, corrosion, or delaminations, which are invisible to the naked eye, can have enormous consequences. With our advanced NDT methods, we literally look right through metal and composite to detect even the smallest irregularities.

This important work enables us to intervene proactively and ensure the structural integrity of our fleet at all times. As an NDT inspector at KLM E&M, you are an indispensable link. You work according to the highest international standards, such as EASA Part-145, and contribute directly to global aviation safety.

Our advanced NDT methods in detail

At KLM E&M, we have a wide range of advanced NDT techniques at our disposal to proactively detect defects. These include:

Ultrasonic testing (UT): Uses sound waves to detect internal cracks and corrosion in thick materials.
Eddy Current (ET): Uses electromagnetic fields to detect even the smallest surface and near-surface defects in metal parts.
X-ray testing (RT): Provides detailed internal 'pictures' using radiation, allowing welding defects or deeper corrosion to be visually identified.
Penetrant testing (PT): Makes surface defects visible using special fluids; a fast and cost-effective method.
Magnetic testing (MT): Effectively detects cracks in ferromagnetic materials by means of magnetization.

These advanced techniques enable us to ensure flight safety with utmost precision.
