Benefits and opportunities
KLM offers a wide range of opportunities and benefits.
If you join KLM, you'll find yourself in a dynamic international environment. A place where we prioritise sustainability and innovation and are constantly striving for improvement. We also value diversity and personal development. You'll enjoy excellent benefits and attractive schemes – and of course, discounted rates on flights. Discover all that KLM has to offer on this page!
Sustainable employability
KLM believes that the sustainable employability of its employees is important: we want to make use of everyone's talents and qualities. Every employee covered by the KLM Ground Staff CLA receives a sustainable employability budget SE-budget. Each month, you build up a percentage of your fixed gross salary, which you can use to pay for training and education, for example. You can also use the accrued budget to buy extra leave days, or have it paid out.
Continuous learning
The Learning & Development department offers a lot of interesting training courses, workshops and education. These include career scans, interesting E-learnings with all kinds of fun methods and tips for learning from and with each other. Many of these are free of charge. If not, you can pay for your training from the SE-budget.
Organisation for everyone
KLM employs people from some 74 countries. Of different ages, sexes and orientations, and each with their own personality and ethnic and cultural background. Every day, we build a working climate and culture in which all our colleagues feel at home and valued. There are various networks which you can join dedicated to diversity and inclusion - think KLM Connecting Colours, Women on Board, KLM Over the Rainbow and YoungKLM.
Transport policy
KLM has a sustainable transport policy, in which 100% of your public transport trip to work is reimbursed (based on 2nd class), for example. You can decide how you travel to work each day. Each mode of transport (car, walk, bike or scooter) is compensated differently, the more sustainable the higher the allowance. For the days you work at home, you receive a home office allowance.
Hybrid working
If you start working in an office position, it is possible to work hybrid. That means you work partly in the office and partly at home (or somewhere else). In an operational environment, different rules apply. Depending on your work location, you will receive a travel allowance and/or home office allowance.
KLM cafeteria scheme
With our cafeteria scheme, you can compile part of your conditions of employment yourself. You receive a tax-free allowance with which you can, for example:
- buy extra holiday days,
- exchange a tax-free transport allowance,
- apply for a tax-free allowance for paid union membership fees,
- participate in the lease bike scheme.

Group health insurance
Through KLM, you can take out collective health insurance with one of the affiliated insurers. This has all kinds of advantages such as discount on the premiums of supplementary insurances. This applies not only to you, your partner and any children living or studying at home may also benefit from this.
Pension accrual
KLM ground staff makes use of our pension scheme. The employee contribution is relatively low, and there are several individual options - for example, in the area of survivor's pension and early retirement. If you have already built up a pension with a previous employer, you can transfer it to the KLM Staff Pension Fund. Read more about the KLM General Pension Fund for Ground Staff.
Discounted flights
As a KLM employee, you can travel to the four corners of the world at a reduced price. That's because you benefit from so-called ISA fares at many our destinations. ISA stands for ‘If Seat Available’ and means that you can fly if there are seats available on board. You can make use of this arrangement once you've been with us for six months. The discount applies to both KLM and KLM Cityhopper flights.
Your partner and children up to the age of 23 may also use the discount. If you don't have a permanent partner, you can bring along a Travelbuddy. After 12 months of service, you may bring a ‘companion’ four times a year. This can for instance be a child older than 23, or a friend.
In addition, you can:
- buy a booked ticket with a 25 per cent discount on the regular fare,
- also use the ISA fares of other airlines. This is possible once you've been employed for 12 months.
For and by colleagues
KLM staff also like to seek each other out outside work. If you enjoy playing music, participating in sports, or spending a day out with colleagues, we offer several staff associations that organise a variety of activities for employees, their partners, and family members to join. For example, you can join the KLM Road Runners, go on a skiing holiday, play in our orchestra or join our diving association KLM Flying Divers.
If you have any further questions that haven't been addressed above, please contact your recruiter. KLM offers a wide range of opportunities and benefits.
