Introduction

You have flown with us, but what do you know about the operations behind every flight? Our whole company is one giant optimization puzzle: Should that London flight depart at 10:05 or 10:20? Can we reduce food waste by accurately predicting the number of passengers 14 days in advance? How should we balance breaks for check-in agents such that queues are minimized? How can we optimize our crew rosters such that we can accommodate the personal preferences of all our crew members? What is the most efficient aircraft for each flight to minimize fuel consumption and  environmental impact? In a major European airline operating at one of the busiest airports in the world, there is always an optimization challenge waiting for you.

We are looking for Senior Operations Research Consultants who will help us to design and develop innovative data science tools and to ensure that they match the business needs.  Are you ready to make a difference in our new Data & Technology organization?

What are you going to do?

Be ready to truly make a difference. As a Senior Operations Research Consultant, you will apply your optimization and data science skills to change the way KLM works, driving innovation and transforming us into a truly data-driven organization. But it does not end there. You might work on an innovation in KickstartAI (kickstartai.nl), be sent around the globe as part of the KLM/BCG partnership to build market-leading AI solutions (airlineoperations.ai) or contribute to the partnerships that we have with various universities to drive innovation and research.

Where do you land?

Depending on your preferences and availability, you will be assigned to one of four Data and Technology Platforms (Flight, Ground, Integrated Planning & Control or Human Resources). You will be working in a scrum team of around 10 people in one of KLM’s offices at or around Schiphol Airport.

  • You can contribute to the platform and company vision on data science solutions.
  • You are experienced in advising businesses on optimization questions.
  • You can explain complex technical topics to peers, non-technical colleagues and management in an easy to digest way and adapt style to suit the audience.
