The core of the new KLM D&T (Data & Technology) organization is formed by business platforms, consisting of product teams organized around business processes, where the business and IT are jointly responsible end-to-end for the digital products and services that support these business processes. Four business platforms have been implemented so far: People, Technology & Intelligence (Human Resources), Flight, Ground and Integral Planning & Control. Platform People Technology & Intelligence consists of eight value streams, consisting of multiple teams that cooperate with various HR departments within KLM (i.e., HR Shared Service Center, Strategy & Planning, Health & Recruitment, Learning & Development and Compensation & Benefits).


You will become the engineering lead for one or more of those value streams and have the ability to define and implement your technical vision together with your teams that will provide value to our customers and stakeholders. The application landscape within your value stream will be very diverse, consisting of SAP HR and SuccessFactors products, SaaS/COTS applications as well custom build applications.

What are you going to do?

Very briefly, you will be working on some of our core systems that support our KLM HR business and the KLM Employee Journey. From systems that enable Recruitment, On and Cross boarding, Payroll and Training & Evolve etc.  KLM has a very diverse application landscape. Through your work, you will have a direct impact on the complete KLM Employee Journey.


You will combine hands-on contributions in the areas of engineering and architecture with management of a group of Software Engineers in the same business platform. The Engineering Leader is responsible for the individual career development, performance and well-being of the assigned Software Engineers. Delegated by the Director of Technology, they will drive the architecture of one or more products within the platform, following the architecture vision & roadmap developed by the Platform Architect with input from the Engineering Leaders. The Engineering Leader, together with the Director of Technology will also drive the communities of practice, culture, craftsmanship, practices and mindset to create the optimal work climate that generates maximum business impact. 



Where do you land?

You land within the People Technology & Intelligence platform. The platform includes support for crucial processes such as administration and payroll for all 26,000+ KLM employees, learning & development, recruitment & onboarding, time & presence, employee communication and employee data and analyses. In short, from the PT&I platform you are involved in the entire KLM employee journey!


Your profile

We are looking for a senior Engineering Leader with SAP HR, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP CPI knowledge and general software engineering skills. You;

  • Enjoy coaching and guiding software engineers. Experience with developing in ABAP is a pre.

  • Contribute to highly reusable, robust and high performing products. The tasks are focused on breakthrough innovations using existing technologies for new IT solutions.

  • Fully embrace and support the D&T design and are willing to put the design into practice and implement it together with other colleagues in the platform.

  • Can design complex, distributed systems with many interacting components with varying performance characteristics and fit these systems into the broader architectural landscape of the company.

  • Are content expert for colleagues and management.

  • Have extensive IT knowledge. You have up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies and industry best practices in the field of data engineering and data science.

  • Have in-depth knowledge and experience in the agile way of working.

  • Have fluent command of English and Dutch is an advantage.

  • Are aware of developments in data management processes and legislation and how these are embedded within KLM.

  • Have knowledge of risk management instruments and know how to limit risks.

  • The ability to think and act tactically, as well as to create and implement change.

  • Are willing to travel to nearshore and offshore locations.

  • Should also recognize yourself in the following competences: impact, innovation, technical skill and competence, providing direction, customer-focused, organizational awareness & organizational sensitivity
