Digital products we work on
Optimisers and big data
More KLM business units are using optimisers. Optimisers support KLM staff in complex and often urgent decision-making processes. Such as the Vanguard tool that is based on disruptions, e.g. Airbus maintenance running late, and chooses the best action the day before departure. Cancel or delay the flight? Working on optimisers as a data scientist means working with the latest (big) data technology. Your impact reaches further than KLM because we sell our optimisers to other airlines.
PLUG: an app with impact
Giving over 10,000 colleagues real-time insight into all 'turnaround' processes (from airplane arrival to departure at Schiphol) is a reality with the PLUG app. Is loading complete? What's the boarding status? This essential information was only available to a select group at KLM. Now due to state-of-the-art technology and our multi-disciplinary PLUG team, working closely with our business analysts, product owner and architect, the turnaround is faster and more punctual saving KLM flight delay costs.

‘I have changed my study twice, before I saw the light: I want to develop software. KLM is my number 1 employer. The freedom that I have to create quality is fantastic. The software that we make ourselves, and maintain, ensures operational improvements within the whole KLM-network, and in the meantime also for some other airlines. Achieving this with a team of young, smart colleagues is amazing!’
