How can we optimize our crew rosters such that we can accommodate the personal preferences of all our crew members? What is the most efficient aircraft for each flight to minimize fuel consumption and  environmental impact? We are looking for a Principal Operations Research Consultant who will help us to design and develop innovative Data Science tools and improve our optimization tools and libraries. Are you ready to make a difference in this new Data & Technology organization?

What are you going to do?

Be ready to truly make a difference. As a Principal Operations Research Consultant, you will apply your optimization and data science skills to change the way KLM works, driving innovation and transforming us into a truly data-driven organization. But it does not end there. You might work on an innovation in KickstartAI (kickstartai.nl), be sent around the globe as part of the KLM/BCG partnership to build market-leading AI solutions (airlineoperations.ai) or contribute to the partnerships that we have with various universities to drive innovation and research.

 

Where do you land?

You will be assigned to Data and Technology Platform Integrated Planning & Control. You will be working in a scrum team of around 10 people in one of KLM’s offices at or around Schiphol Airport.

 

Your profile

We are looking for passionate and talented Data Scientists, for curious builders who are biased towards action, communication and enjoy working in a fast-paced and international environment. 

 

  • You have completed a master's degree in a relevant field with focus on operations research and you have either a relevant PhD or you have gained profound OR knowledge through years of practical application.
  • You have at least 8 years of first-hand experience in operations research roles in a combination of academical and enterprise or commercial context.
  • You are considered an Operations Research champion in the industry and have a fundamental understanding of the field.
  • You have successfully developed and implemented Machine Learning models, preferably in conjunction with optimization techniques
  • You are highly proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, C++, Java.
  • You are an active contributor to academic papers and/or conferences.
  • You can build state-of-art optimization model solvers and machine learning libraries from scratch using novel algorithms.
  • You are capable of acting as subject matter expert to peers.
  • You can contribute to the company vision on Data Science solutions can serve as sparring partner for executive management.
  • You can explain modelling-related topics to peers, non-technical colleagues and executive management in an easy to digest way and adapt style to suit the audience. 
  • You are fluent in English, being able to communicate in Dutch is a plus.
