KLM wants to become the most data & technology driven airline in the world. Changing our way of working, modernizing our technology stack and architecture and the right positioning of the people in our new Data & Technology organization is key in achieving this ambition.

 

The core of this new organization are business platforms, consisting of product teams organized around business processes, whereby business and IT are together end-to-end responsible for the digital products and services that support those business processes. The first 4 platforms that have been formed are HR&CS, Flight, Ground, and Integral Planning & Control.

 

For the product teams within each platform, we are looking for multiple Scrum Masters to enable teams, team of teams and the platform to self-organize and deliver value via effective Lean-Agile practices and coaching the desired culture. You will facilitate one or two Agile teams together with the Product Owner.

What are you going to do?

The Scrum Master is a servant leader who enables teams, teams of teams and the platform to self-organize and deliver value via effective Lean-Agile practices and coaching the desired culture. The Scrum Master has a set of skills to create an open and safe atmosphere and can give feedback to the teams and other platform players. The Scrum Master can help everyone inside and outside the team to understand Lean-Agile theory, practices, rules, and values to maximize the value created by the teams. The tasks have significant impact on the output of multiple business platforms.

 

The specific level we currently seek is a senior level. This level of Scrum master takes the role of Release Train Engineer (RTE) or supports 2 or more product teams which vary in type and complexity. In case the senior Scrum Master takes the role of RTE for an Agile Release Train (ART) he or she is responsible for coordinating and coaching the ART such that maximum value is delivered by the teams that together form the ART.

 

The key result areas of the senior Scrum Master are:

 

  • Owns the SAFe ART processes at Program Level.
  • Ensures performance and quality of the ART deliverables.
  • Service to the product owner is to ensure product vision, goals, scope, and product domain are understood by stakeholders, to ensure the product owner knows how to arrange the backlog to maximize value.
  • Service to the development teams is to coach the team, to ensure impediments are removed, to promote self-organization, t-shape capabilities, and multidisciplinary teams, to secure to creation of high-value products.
  • Service to the product teams, to coach towards a desired culture, to facilitate (scrum) ceremonies, to grow towards a high-performance team and to help the individual with a focus on mindset and behavior.
  • Service to the platform, as a change agent, leading and coaching the organization in its Agile adoption and desired culture, working with others to increase the effectiveness of Agile in the organization, makes suggestions for process improvement.
  • Taking a leading role in the Scrum Master and/or RTE Community of Practice.
  • Acting as a lead in designing, preparing, and animating generic and specific training related to a wide variety of working methods.
  • Additional key result areas of the scrum master in role of an RTE:
  • Coaches the ART and Stakeholders towards a high-performance train, coaches on elements towards an Agile Way of working and on the Agile mindset.

 

Where do you land?

Business platforms are the core of this new organization. Business platforms consist of product teams organized around business processes, where together business and IT are end-to-end responsible for the digital products and services that support those business processes. You start on one of the 4 business platforms: HR&CS, Flight, Ground and Integral Planning & Control.

 

Your profile

  • You are trained in various Agile working methods (incl. related tooling) and advanced coaching skills.
  • You are capable to inspire, motivate, coach people to adapt to the new organizational set-up and towards the new way of working.
  • You can act as subject matter expert to peers and sparring partner for (executive) management.
  • You can organize and facilitate a team or multiple teams, like an ART, to meet deadlines and quality as agreed with stakeholders.
  • You can support & coach the team or multiple teams in handling difficult situations.
  • You can stimulate teams and/or the team of teams to reflect on Agile mindset & values.
  • You can challenge the business platform and organization on behavior and processes not in line with the principles.
  • You have the drive to ensure continuous improvement on team, team of teams, individual and platform level.
  • You can solve cross-platform and cross-ART impediments and between platform and surrounding departments.
  • You organize collaboration, identify, and execute interventions across the team of teams, across platforms and surrounding departments.
  • You have IT knowledge, education, or experience in Software development.
  • Fluent in English and Dutch.
