We’ve got a spot open for a talented and adventurous professional in visual design & interaction design for Air France and KLM. Yes – that means the occasional café au lait in Paris! As sustainability frontrunner, you skip the plane and travel by train.

What are you going to do?

Digital Product Designers (DPD) design the +10 digital channels of Air France and KLM. Think of the website, apps, self-service kiosks at the airport and the onboard portal. DPD are specialized in translating user research and business needs into structured complex (or super simple) wireframes that will lean the base to rich and pixel perfect screens. Always supported by the style and brand guidelines. DPD have a picky eye for details and micro-interactions, they will make sure the UX is enhanced and evangelized from start to finish. DPDs are embedded in the agile product teams therefore they need to understand technical environments andlimitations in order to challenge them.

In this role you are DPD for all sustainability related topics. Air France KLM has high ambitions to make aviation more sustainable. Your challenge is to better inform and engage customers on sustainability so that they make more sustainable choices. Think of giving customers a better understanding of the impact of their flight, encouraging to buy Sustainable Aviation Fuel and to pack light.

Thus, what do we expect from you?

  • You create awesome designs for Air France and KLM digital products while ensuring consistency, user friendliness and customer satisfaction.
  • You collaborate with multiple product teams and designers, meaning you easily switch between topics and enjoy working with a variety of people.
  • You work together with our research and analytics team to sharpen your design decisions based on user testing and data. You love and learn from our customers’ feedback.
  • You build out our design library by looking for reusable patterns, simplifying design and creating re-usable components.
  • You steer design vision for Sustainability, meaning you facilitate design workshops with stakeholders and designers to create new sustainability concepts. Next, you guide other designers who develop the concepts in more detail.
  • And, you love design and continuously invest in being a better designer for yourself and the team.

Where do you land?

You’re offered a sweet spot in the creative and fun Air France KLM design team, location the Netherlands (Amstelveen). We consist of roughly 60 young professionals in user research, visual design, interaction design, service design, UX writing and editorial writing. We’re ambitious, skilled, and devoted to making a real difference in our customers’ travel experience. You’ll become part of the DesignOps squad and report to the Manager DesignOps. The other 7 members of your squad are experts in ResearchOps, design systems and accessibility. The design team works from 2 locations (Amstelveen and Paris airport), so you may expect a vibrant mix of French, Dutch, and other cultures.

Your profile

You have a demonstrated passion for design, user research, innovation and sustainability. You have a good understanding of digital ecosystems and know your way around agile. Therefore, you’re confident to work with agile teams that are running at full speed. As a self-starter, you pro-actively reach out to product teams, stakeholders, or other designers for input and alignment. People skills are an important asset in this role. Sustainability is an important and sensitive(!) topic for Air France KLM, requiring lots of persuasion and alignment. You know how to get people onboard, also when they’re hard to convince. You’re prepared with a rationale or a prototype and can bring user insights, facts & figures to the table. Lastly you can see the big picture (our digital ecosystem, our sustainability challenge) and you can easily switch to micro level (designs & flows) and back.
