We’ve got a spot open for a talented and experienced DesignOps Lead at Air France and KLM. Yes – that means the occasional café au lait in Paris!

What are you going to do?

The Air France KLM design team consists of nearly 60 designers, copywriters and researchers. Together, we are responsible for the user experience of +10 digital channels: the site, apps, self-service kiosks at the airport, onboard portal, etc. The team continues to grow, meaning we need to operationalize design at scale. As DesignOps Lead you empower all experts in the team to do their work. You remove roadblocks, manage tools, standardize the ways of working, facilitate growth of collective and individual skills and help building a design culture. In other words: you ensure our experts have the best possible prerequisites to do their job.

 

DesignOps is relatively new at Air France KLM, therefore we’re looking for a DesignOps Lead with expert knowledge who can bring DesignOps practices to the next level. Under your guidance the design team will become more effective and mature. It’s a big task with big impact.  

 

Thus, what do we expect from you?

  • You constantly listen to all stakeholders to get a good understanding of the biggest pain points and needs with regards to processes, tools, people, the quality and impact of design
  • You set clear DesignOps goals and actions in alignment with design managers and the director of design
  • There is a design maturity framework in place. You ensure everyone in the design team understands this strategic framework and knows how to act upon it. You engage all relevant people to create velocity on initiatives big and small
  • You help acquiring and implementing tools
  • Building effective processes is your big talent. You love embedding design standards, best practices and new ways of working
  • You develop metrics to regularly assess the effectiveness of the design team and our tools and processes
  • You improve the understanding and use of UX activities outside the team. For example, by sharing success stories and organizing design workshos
  • And, you love design and continuously invest in being a better DesignOps Lead for yourself and the team

Where do you land?

You’re offered a sweet spot in the creative and fun Air France KLM design team, location the Netherlands (Amstelveen). We consist of roughly 60 young professionals in user research, visual design, interaction design, service design, UX writing and editorial writing. We’re ambitious, skilled, and devoted to making a real difference in our customers’ travel experience. You’ll become part of the DesignOps squad and report to the Manager DesignOps. The other 7 members of your squad are experts in ResearchOps, design systems and accessibility. The design team works from 2 locations (Amstelveen and Paris airport), so you may expect a vibrant mix of French, Dutch, and other cultures.

Your profile

You have a demonstrated passion for DesignOps and innovation. You know your way around digital ecosystems and agile. Therefore, you’re confident to work with agile teams that are running at full speed. You’re a system thinker who can see the big picture (our strategy, team performance) and switch to micro level (improvement actions) and back. People skills are an important asset in this role. You enjoy collaborating with others and know how to get people along, also when they’re busy or hard to convince. You’re an excellent communicator and strong organizer. Under your supervision complex projects get delivered, in time. Most important, you display a positive mindset and your energy and drive are contagious. You know how to make Design Operations fun!

 

Some must-haves:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in design or a related discipline, or equivalent professional design experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in DesignOps
  • Good understanding of design methods and thinking
  • Proven to successfully manage cross-functional design projects with complex stakeholder involvement
  • Fluent in English. Dutch and French is a plus
  • Based in the Netherlands

 

Experience working in an agile corporate environment is a plus
